In her post today, Leslie Saeta insist on the fact that every painting we do during this challenge won't be a masterpiece. Today I feel it to be very true. I feel this painting lacks something that I can't really point to; I would like to redo it differently. I don't think it so bad I can't display it, as it happened to several others during this period, but I'm not really satisfied. Still, I'm playing the game and let it be on my blog, hoping tomorrow will be better.

Aujourd'hui Leslie Saeta insiste dans son billet sur le fait que toutes les oeuvres que nous peignons durant ce défi ne seront pas des chef d'oeuvres. Je suis d'autant plus d'accord avec elle que j'ai l'impression qu'il manque quelque chose à ce tableau, je ne sais pas quoi, mais je voudrais le refaire différemment. Je ne le trouve pas totalement raté, comme cela est arrivé à plusieurs autres durant ce mois, mais je ne suis pas satisfaite. Pour autant, je joue le jeu et je l'affiche sur mon blog, en espérant que celui de demain me plaise plus.

Trying my hand at a cardinal bird. We haven't this kind of birds in Europe. That's a shame, their colors are lovely.

Today still rough paper and a quite detailed landscape. We are halfway through! So soon. But it's a relief as I find it more difficult to be on time lately and would like to spend more time on my watercolors, or go back to acrylic painting, which takes more time for me to complete. I'm happy to have tried subjects unusual for me like landscapes and would like to try different ones like cityscapes or portraits but they could take me more than one day...We'll see. In the meantime let's continue the exercise for 15 other days.

Aujourd'hui toujours papier à gros grain et paysage assez détaillé. Nous sommes à mi-chemin! Déjà! C'est un soulagement car je trouve plus difficile actuellement de faire mon aquarelle tous les jours et souhaiterais passer plus de temps sur mes oeuvres, ou faire de l'acrylique, ce qui est plus long. Jusqu'ici, je suis contente d'avoir essayé des sujets inhabituels pour moi comme les paysages, et souhaiterais en essayer d'autres comme les villes ou les portraits mais ils risquent de me prendre plus qu'un jour...On verra. En attendant en route pour les 15 derniers jours.

Today I also have the honour to introduce to you a watercolor by my daughter who is ten: the cardinal. Seeing me painting everyday gave her ideas, so I lent her some old watercolors, a brush and a reference photograph, et voilà!

Back to smooth paper and a distant landscape. I seem to alternate between smooth and rough for I often begin two watercolors at the same time, one on my smooth block, the other on my rough block.

Another try at the rough paper today. I like using the white in it which seems to me whiter than my other papers. It is interesting to see how the paper influences the way you paint.

This watercolor I worked in a different process. I didn't draw at the beginning, playing with the color itself to draw, and rather enjoying the liberty of it.

Pour cette aquarelle, j'ai utilisé un processus différent de ce que je fais d'habitude. Au lieu de commencer par dessiner et d'appliquer la couleur ensuite, j'ai dessiné directement en couleur, avec le pinceau, repassant avec différentes couleurs pour affiner les formes. Cette liberté de trait est très agréable à pratiquer. .

Today, the watercolor was more difficult to do, the Arches paper is of the rough type and I'm not used to it. However it was fun, as this paper enables smooth color transition better than a smooth paper, surprisingly enough.
About the links to the reference photos, I'm aware that you must join Paint My Photo to see them, but I don't dare copying the photo to my blog without the photograph's permission. Joining Paint My Photo is well worth it, however.

L'aquarelle d'aujourd'hui a été plus difficile à aboutir, le papier Arches étant à gros grain, et je n'y suis pas habituée. Mais cependant il permet des transitions de couleur plus douces que les papiers à grain fin que j'ai, ce qui est étonnant.

In my sketchbook, still trying my new acrylic gouache paints.
I find them a bit difficult to master, being more used to the transparencies of watercolor.
The Matrioshkas are inspired by delyo, whose drawings I admire a lot.
