Back to smooth paper and a distant landscape. I seem to alternate between smooth and rough for I often begin two watercolors at the same time, one on my smooth block, the other on my rough block.

Another try at the rough paper today. I like using the white in it which seems to me whiter than my other papers. It is interesting to see how the paper influences the way you paint.

Un autre essai de papier à gros grain. J'aime utiliser son blanc qui me paraît plus blanc que celui de mes autres papiers. C'est intéressant de remarquer comment le papier influence la façon de peindre.

This watercolor I worked in a different process. I didn't draw at the beginning, playing with the color itself to draw, and rather enjoying the liberty of it.

Pour cette aquarelle, j'ai utilisé un processus différent de ce que je fais d'habitude. Au lieu de commencer par dessiner et d'appliquer la couleur ensuite, j'ai dessiné directement en couleur, avec le pinceau, repassant avec différentes couleurs pour affiner les formes. Cette liberté de trait est très agréable à pratiquer. .

Working from Paint My Photo means that sometimes two artists chose the same reference. It happened yesterday with Johnna Schelling and me. Her Day 6 painting represents the same koi than my Day 7. It is interesting to see the different ways to interpret a same subject. Her koi can be seen here.

Today, the watercolor was more difficult to do, the Arches paper is of the rough type and I'm not used to it. However it was fun, as this paper enables smooth color transition better than a smooth paper, surprisingly enough.
About the links to the reference photos, I'm aware that you must join Paint My Photo to see them, but I don't dare copying the photo to my blog without the photograph's permission. Joining Paint My Photo is well worth it, however.

L'aquarelle d'aujourd'hui a été plus difficile à aboutir, le papier Arches étant à gros grain, et je n'y suis pas habituée. Mais cependant il permet des transitions de couleur plus douces que les papiers à grain fin que j'ai, ce qui est étonnant.
A propos des liens sur les photos de référence, je suis consciente qu'il faut être membre de Paint My Photo pour les voir, mais je n'ose pas copier ici les photos sans la permission du photographe. Rejoindre Paint My Photo est très utile, cependant.

I find them a bit difficult to master, being more used to the transparencies of watercolor.
The Matrioshkas are inspired by delyo, whose drawings I admire a lot.
Suspense is opening a matrioshka and finding the one nesting in it.

Posemaniacs

Browsing Ghislaine Bruno's blog, I found a tool that could be handy for artists wishing to work on the human figure without a real "Modèle Vivant" studio nearby.
Posemaniacs offers human figure images and some exercises to do in front of your pc such as "30 Second Drawing", "Negative Space Drawing", "Random Pose Viewer" and "Hands for Drawing".
It seems interesting.

Marie-Laure's book

Maire-Laure Alvarez, (Fenetre sur mes couleurs ), a fellow painter and a friend, just wrote a children's book, with another artist, Amelie Callot, doing the illustrations.
