Reference Photos - des photos pour peindre

I know of 2 sites that offer free reference photos for painters: Paint my photo, and http://www.photos4artists.co.uk/ ,the difference being that on Paint my photo they ask you to post the resulting painting. Both contain superb reference photos. If you know others, please let me know in the comments section.

Je connais 2 sites qui offrent des photos libres de droit à partir desquelles peindre: Paint my photo et http://www.photos4artists.co.uk/ , la différence entre les deux étant que Paint my photo demande qu'on poste sur le site l’œuvre résultante. Tous les deux contiennent de superbes photos de référence. Si vous en connaissez d'autres, merci de me les indiquer en commentaire.

I just discovered the artist Tom Hoffmann ( http://hoffmannwatercolors.com/ ). I love his watercolors. He also has a blog where he gives homework to would-be watercolorists ( https://hoffmannwatercolors.blogspot.fr/ ) , which is very kind of him.
Je viens de découvrir l'aquarelliste Tom Hoffmann ( http://hoffmannwatercolors.com/ ). J'aime beaucoup ses aquarelles. Il entretient également un blog dans lequel il donne des exercices pour les aquarellistes qui veulent progresser ( https://hoffmannwatercolors.blogspot.fr/ ), ce qui est très sympa de sa part.

Training by copying - Copier pour apprendre

From time to time, I try to copy a painting that I like. It is very instructive, even if the result is not up to the model. I've got a whole bunch of watercolors to learn from in one of my pinterest boards.
De temps en temps, j'essaie de copier un tableau que j'aime. C'est très instructif, même si le résultat ne vaut pas le modèle. J'ai tout un tas d'aquarelles à imiter dans un de mes tableaux pinterest.

Back to painting...and blogging - De retour sur le blog

After several years of other activities, I'm back to painting and blogging. It is quite hard to regain momentum :)

Après un hiatus de quelques années, je suis de retour sur le blog, et aux pinceaux. Je trouve difficile de se remettre dans le bain :)

So what's the results of the 30 paintings in 30 days challenge for me. On the plus side I have painted and posted in one month more than ever. I did subjects I never did before, like landscapes and a market scene. I really enjoyed being stretched and having to discover new solutions to my painting problems. On the minus side, I regretted not having more time on some paintings. I will perhaps re-use the photo references to explore it further. At some times, I wished to be able to do more complex scenes too. But I can now apply my newly acquired skills to these objectives. As a whole a very positive experience. Many thanks to Leslie Saeta to have launched and hosted this challenge!

Quels sont donc les résultats de ce défi des 30 peintures en 30 jours pour moi. Ce qui est positif: j'ai peint et posté en un mois plus que je n'ai jamais fait. J'ai peint des sujets que je n'avais jamais abordé auparavant comme des paysages et une scène de marché. J'ai beaucoup apprécié être poussée dans mes retranchements et avoir à trouver des solutions à mes problèmes techniques. Ce qui est moins positif: j'ai regretté de ne pas avoir plus de temps sur certains tableaux. Je réutiliserai peut-être certaines photos de référence afin de les approfondir. J'aurais aussi voulu pouvoir faire des scènes plus complexes. Mais je peux aujourd'hui appliquer mes progrès techniques à ces scènes. Dans l'ensemble, l'expérience était très positive. Mille mercis à Leslie Saeta pour avoir initié et hébergé ce défi!

This one is a little cheating as I have been working on it, off and on, for more than a week.It is not strictly speaking a day painting. Such detailed work is maddening to do. It is a first for me, and I think I will have to find other ways of doing market scenes: it lacks a real center of interest imho. But it was interesting to stretch myself to do that, and it is the last one of the series of 30 in 30. Hurray! Now I can spent more time on paintings and try other kind of scenes that require that.

Celui-là, c'est un peu de la triche: cela fait plus d'une semaine que je travaille dessus, dès que j'ai le temps. Ce n'est donc pas vraiment un tableau d'un jour. C'est épuisant de faire des scènes aussi détaillées. C'est la première fois, et je pense qu'il va falloir que je réfléchisse à d'autres façons d'interpréter les scènes de marché: il lui manque un point d’intérêt, à mon humble avis. Mais c'était intéressant de se forcer à le faire, et c'est le dernier des 30 en 30 jours. Hourrah! Maintenant je peux passer plus de temps sur mes oeuvres, et essayer d'autres types de scènes qui nécessitent cela.
